Dr. Kaul grew up in Hartford, Wisconsin, where she played basketball and soccer at Hartford Union High School, and she went on to play two years of college basketball at UW–Washington County. She then studied kinesiology, which is essentially the study of how the body moves, at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, and through all of those seasons she saw firsthand how chiropractic care helped her through training as well as recovery. That background still shapes how she approaches a case. She tends to look at pain in terms of how a joint or muscle is being asked to work, and she pairs treatment in the office with habits patients can keep up at home, including movement and exercise that fit their day.
Dr. Kaul was drawn to Daniels Chiropractic by the sense of community in the office, including the family-like atmosphere, the care she saw between staff and patients, and a team that supports each other while keeping the workplace honest and fun. She felt it was a place where she could make a real difference for patients while continuing to grow as a chiropractor.
Outside the office, Dr. Kaul practices yoga, goes fishing, hikes with her corgis, Bentley and Bailey, and spends time with her husband, Chris.
Her dry needling training covers 40 hours of coursework across two levels, with Level 2 focused on deeper and more complicated muscle groups. Dry needling uses a thin, solid needle to release trigger points, the tight and tender spots in a muscle that can cause pain where they are or refer it somewhere else. At Daniels Chiropractic it is usually one part of a visit along with adjustments and exercise, not a treatment on its own, and it is not the right fit for everyone. Whether it makes sense for you depends on what the exam finds.
Dr. Marissa Kaul is a chiropractor at Daniels Chiropractic in Racine, Wisconsin, who is certified in dry needling. She earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, and she has been with Daniels Chiropractic since 2024.
Dr. Kaul completed Level 1 and Level 2 dry needling training through the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association in 2026. Each level is a 20-hour continuing education course, and Level 2 builds on Level 1 with more advanced work on deeper and more complicated muscle groups.
Both use thin, solid needles, but the reasoning behind them is different. Acupuncture comes from traditional Chinese medicine and follows meridian points, while dry needling is based on muscle anatomy and targets trigger points, the tight and tender spots in a muscle that can cause pain locally or refer it somewhere else.
No, and we would rather say that up front. Some health conditions and medications, including blood thinners, change whether it is a reasonable option, and some people simply do better with other approaches. Dr. Kaul decides whether dry needling makes sense after an exam, and when it does, it is typically used alongside adjustments and exercise rather than on its own.
