What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Chiropractic Adjustments

How is chiropractic care different from other kinds of care?

You may want to know what treatment is like before coming in for your initial appointment and adjustment at Daniels Chiropractic.

What exactly is an “adjustment”?

The primary focus of your treatment will be the adjustment of the individual bones of your spine called vertebrae. The doctor uses his hands or an instrument to help move the vertebrae where it is stuck or not moving well to restore its normal position and movement.

At Daniels Chiropractic in Racine, Mt. Pleasant, and Caledonia, Wisconsin we use three different adjustment approaches to help you feel, move, and live better.

Chiropractic Adjustment

Hands-Only Approach

The first is a traditional hands-on or hands-only approach where you feel gentle pressure from the doctor’s hands. Generally, you feel small movements inside the vertebrae and you hear a noise inside your joint similar to what you hear when you crack your knuckles. That noise is the sound of tiny pockets of air built up in the joint being compressed in one of the spinal joints.

Table Assisted Chiropractic Adjustment

Table-Assisted Approach

The second approach is a table-assisted approach where you will feel less pressure than the hands-only approach and you don't hear any of the noise from inside your joint. The table piece will move over a series of three or four gradual adjustments in order to move the vertebrae back in position.

Instrument Assisted Chiropractic Adjustment

Instrument - Assisted Approach

The third method is an instrument-assisted approach where you feel a gentle repetitive tapping sensation. It also has the same effect of restoring motion into the joint and getting the vertebrae into the proper position.

Which Approach Is Best For Me?

Chiropractic Adjustment Assessment

The doctor will explain these procedures to you and which one may work best for you. He will explain his exam findings and share his experience and preference in treating similar conditions.

Of course, we consider your preferences in this decision. We may utilize one of these approaches or a combination of these approaches depending on what’s best for your condition and your preferences.
